History

I started my first BBS in 1987. I ran a Spitfire BBS on a Radio Shack PC. I ran this is a few places I lived (West Palm Beach, Cape Cod) under the names of Game Net, File Base and a few I can remember at this time. I got up to two nodes with Spitfire. In 1994 I switched to Major BBS and went to 6 lines. I got a UUCP (Major Gateway Internet) connection for internet Email. We then installed a 56K leased line through UUNET using MajorTCP to connect the BBS to the Internet. We had a PageSat Usenet news feed. With this setup I became the first ISP on Cape Cod. The BBS was called CCS World. I got up to 38 lines with this setup. When Vircom added a Radius server to it product line we added terminal servers (Portmaster) to allow faster and direct connections to out users. A new T-1 line was added in 1996 along with NT and Linux servers. Through all this the BBS was still the core doing all the authenticating, accounting and automatically charging of credit cards (VisaMan with Autosub). The ISP is still up and running (www.blackwidowweb.net) with Nationwide Dialup. The BBS is just for fun now!
